Merchandise Imports recorded growth for the Third Quarter of 2025

The total value of merchandise imports increased to $418.05 for the July to September 2025 quarter. This reflected a 0.7 percent growth over the corresponding quarter in 2024, with petroleum and petroleum-related imports declining by 22.8 percent. Non-petroleum products imports grew by 4.7 percent for the review period.

Imports of machinery and transport equipment grew by 13.5 percent due to higher imports of road vehicles, electrical machinery, and machinery specialized for particular industries. Imports of food and live animals rose 6.2 percent, supported by higher inflows of cereals, meat, dairy products, and fish. Beverages and tobacco imports also expanded by 7.9 percent, driven mainly by increased imports of wines, spirits, and some non-alcoholic beverages. The 5.1 percent growth in miscellaneous manufactured articles reflected higher purchases of clothing apparel, footwear, and travel goods, while the 12.3 percent increase in chemicals reflected growth in imports of pharmaceuticals, essential oils, and other chemical materials for the period. In contrast, imports of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials declined marginally by 0.4 percent, reflecting lower imports of metals and non-ferrous metals, while a 36.3 percent reduction in commodities and transactions not classified elsewhere was mainly due to reduced imports of non-monetary gold and special transactions.

The value of imported petroleum and petroleum-related products decreased 22.8 percent for the period. This outturn reflected lower average volumes and prices of all major types of mineral fuels imported for the third quarter of 2025.
