The Cayman Economy Remains Strong as Tourism Surges and Financial Services Expand. Economic growth up 2.4% in the First Quarter of 2026

Strong tourism activity and continued growth in financial services supported an estimated 2.4% economic expansion in the Cayman Islands for the first quarter of 2026, while the Central Government recorded a surplus of more than CI$317 million. Although slightly below the 2.9% growth recorded in the first quarter of 2025, the economy continued to benefit from broad-based growth across several major industries.

The services sector remained the primary engine of growth. Hotels and restaurants recorded the strongest expansion, increasing by an estimated 10.2%, reflecting continued strength in tourism-related activity. Business activities and administrative services grew by 3.5%, while health and social services increased by 4.2%. Finance and insurance services, the largest contributor to Cayman Islands GDP, expanded by an estimated 2.1% during the quarter. Growth was supported by robust activity in the insurance industry alongside steady gains across the broader financial services sector.

Government finances improved during the first three months of 2026, with the Central Government recording an overall surplus of CI$317.3 million. Revenue totalled CI$624.9 million, while expenditure amounted to CI$307.6 million.
